Does your son or daughter have Straight A’s?

If not, Tahoe Tutors can help.

Grades and test scores have never been more important for college admissions then they are right now. With school budget cuts across the country, universities are having to reduce the number of students that they admit.

Fewer spots mean more competition. More competition means that parents have to be even more focused on making their son or daughter more well-rounded and academically successful in high school.

At TahoeTutors, we know that your goal as a parent is to give your child a chance at a happy and successful life. Helping your son or daughter get into a top-notch university is the first step. Look over the services that we offer and let us know how we can help your family:

*Individual and Group Tutoring

If your son or daughter is struggling in one or more subjects at school, a tutor is a wise investment. We have a very specific program for helping students transform from struggling and upset, to confident and successful:

1. Quickly review past material with the student to find “confusion points” that have made learning the new material difficult
2. Fix the “confusion points” while simultaneously learning the class’ current material. This ensures that students rebuild the foundations without falling further behind in class.
3. Perform an Organizational Audit. We’ve worked with a lot of students and we’ve found that grades are directly related to how organized a student is. “Loose lips sink ships” is a famous phrase from World War 2. “Loose Papers Sink Report Cards” is applicable to students (sorry it doesn’t rhyme).
4. Cure Test Anxiety – we’ve studied professional golfers and Olympic athletes to see how they prepare to perform under pressure. These same techniques will help your student perform their best on test day.

*SAT/ACT/PSAT Test preparation

Do not go into a standardized test without preparing. Top colleges reject 4.0+ students with poor test scores all the time. Here’s our test prep formula:

1. Goal Setting – Studying is not effective without motivation. We begin with a goal-setting exercise to build motivation and super-charge future study sessions
2. Study-Plan Design – Every student has different time constraints and commitments. We create a personalized study plan for each student to ensure that proper progress is made outside of class
3. SAT/ACT Fundamentals – Your student will understand every single problem on the test. No surprises.
4. Tips and Tricks – Certain problems have time-saving shortcuts. Most students do not finish every problem on the SAT – our strategies will help your student be one of the few that do.

*College Admissions Consulting

When looking at your student’s application, there are 3 things the college will look at: Grades, Test Scores, and the High School Story.

The story is culmination of all the experiences, interests, activities, and pursuits that your student experienced in high school. To construct an appealing story, it is best to start planning early with college admissions in mind. Katie Baumruck, our Harvard-trained Director of College Consulting, will help you and your family prepare for the college application process.

We work with students as young as 8th grade to set academic and extracurricular goals which will make them irresistible to admissions committees when the time comes to apply. For older students already involved in the application process, we offer help with:

* essays
* letters of recommendation
* scholarship applications
* and much more..
